Dad Timothy L. ShermerExecutive Officer
Dad Tim Shermer was born in Gastonia, North Carolina on October 31, 1956. He attended public schools in Gaston County and graduated from Ashbrook High School in June 1975. He continued his education at North Carolina State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement in December 1978. Dad Shermer was employed by the Raleigh Police Department in May, 1979. During his 20 year career, he has served as a patrol officer, tactical team officer and Sergeant, and currently holds the rank of Lieutenant. Dad Shermer and his wife Jennifer have been married for 13 years and have a son, Chase, who is 5 years old. They reside in Knightdale, just outside of Raleigh. As a youth, Dad Shermer attained the rank of Eagle Scout with Bronze Palm. In seeking other youth oriented opportunities, he joined DeMolay and was initiated in July 1974 in Gastonia Chapter. Dad Shermer held the chapter offices of Marshall and Scribe/Treasurer, and was the State Sweetheart Chairman for the North Carolina Association from 1976-1977. Dad Shermer received his Chevalier as an active DeMolay. He developed a strong lasting friendship with his Chapter Dad and then Executive Officer, John A. Verdery. Dad Shermer received his majority in October 1977 and immediately petitioned Gastonia Lodge #369. He has been a Master Mason for over 21 years, and is currently a member of Garner Lodge #701. Dad Shermer also holds memberships in the Charlotte Scottish Rite Bodies and Oasis Shrine Temple. Dad Shermer became involved again with DeMolay in 1984 as an advisor with Garner Chapter and instructing the D.A.D. Program for the State Association. As a senior DeMolay advisor, he has received the Active Legion of Honor, Cross of Honor, Advisor's Honor Key, two Zerubabal Keys, and named Senior DeMolay of the year in North Carolina. He has also served as and advisor with Raleigh and East Wake Chapters. EO E. John Elmore
appointed Dad Shermer as Assistant Executive Officer in 1989. He was appointed Grand
Standard Bearer for the Supreme Council in 1996. He has served on numerous Supreme
Council committees including Athletics, Chapter Operation, and Congress. He is
currently the chairman of the Jurisdictional Officer Development Committee and the
Vice-Chairman of the Nominating Committee. Dad Shermer received formal EO Training
in the Fall of 1999 and assumed the duties of North Carolina DeMolay Executive Officer on
January 1, 2000. |
